  • Arrive and ease into the lush surroundings of your coastal villa.
In the late afternoon, join Safiya for a relaxed introduction to the retreat where you’ll paint the greenery around you.
The evening ends with a shared dinner and a simple opening circle about our intentions and what brought us here.

  • Begin the day with a soft yoga session to ease our minds and body. Continue the day at the Ahangama beach feeling the water, listening to the waves, collecting small memories through sketches, sounds, and photographs. Let the ocean guide your pace.
Lunch will be at one of the beautiful beachside restaurants in Ahangama. We then return to the villa for a free-flow painting session with Safiya, exploring movement, rhythm, and colour inspired by our visit to the sea.
The rest of the day is open to dips in the pool, engaging with the group, and spending time in the different nooks of the villa.

  • Spend the morning exploring the nearby village and meeting the people who bring the region to life. Meet the locals who run the little shops (kadés) and fruit stores.
Share stories, take photos, and sketch what moves you.

In the afternoon, gather for a Sri Lankan cooking session using ingredients bought along the way.
Together with Sambol Foundation, we’ll prepare a communal meal and learn the stories behind the flavours. The fresh ingredients will be our subject to paint for the day, as well as the preparation and the process from raw vegetables to table.

We will spend the rest of the day easing into our drawings, developing them into stories and journal writings, adding colour and rythm.

  • Start the day with a slow yoga flow to open the body and mind. For the rest of the morning, we will join a local artisan who will show us the ropes with a traditional mask-painting workshop. They will also teach us the history and meaning behind this vibrant Sri Lankan craft.
After a beautiful culturally-rich experience, we continue our day at the beach for a little mindfulness and relaxation.

Late afternoon is spacious, with enough time for rest, completing our pieces, journaling, and one-on-one guidance with Safiya.

  • A gentle morning of relaxation and gratitude. We will spend the day completing our canvas paintings and sketches as we near the end of our retreat by the afternoon.
Enjoy the last day in the villa with a celebratory lunch together, featuring Sri Lankan dishes made with local produce. We can go around the table and share our beautiful creations, what we’ve gained from this experience and what we will take back with us.
